Diet Challenge Check-in Monday

Nothing new to report on the diet challenge. As I write this, I'm seriously thinking about chucking my scale out of the window. Ha! How liberating that would be!

I would like to thank everyone who has entered my handbag giveaway. Thank you so much for visiting and for your lovely comments.

For many months, I have been seeing so many beautiful quilts throughout blogland and I have become more and more interested in doing one myself. I have done a yo-yo quilt, a rag quilt and a simple hand-tied block quilt. What has kept me from delving deeper into quilting is the task of maneuvering all of that fabric through my sewing machine. There is simply not enough room and I hate struggling like that.

I came upon some information recently about the quilt as you go method. Now, I think this is something that I can manage as this method allows you to deal with quilting one block at a time. Of course, true to my nature, I will not be following any written pattern. I'm thinking of something more in line of a simple block pattern with sashing for my first try. If anyone has tried this method and would care to share how much you liked or disliked it, please let me know. Even if you haven't tried this method but have an opinion about it, I would love to hear from you. As a non-quilter, it would be invaluable information for me.

This is the color palate that I am thinking about working in. I'm planning to add several solid fabrics into the mix. I'm pretty occupied with other things so I am realistic and realize that I won't be finishing this any time soon. If it takes me years, I will accept that. Steady as she goes will be my motto toward this new endeavor.

Thank you so much and have a wonderful day!

Aloha!

Good for you!! I can't wait to see it! As for advice, unfortunately I can't give you any on the quilt as you go method. I piece my tops on my sewing machine then load them onto my long arm and quilt them. Sorry I am of no help in that area.

I'm so glad you're going to try this! I haven't tried the quilt as you go method so have nothing to offer on that subject. But I think you're going to be having a blast with this!! I can't wait to see your progress!!

Here's a pretty good tutorial, complete with photos.

Your other alternative is to find a long arm quilter to quilt for you.

What a beautiful color palate...I have many quilt tops finished and might send them out to be quilted because of the maneuvering problem. I have heard of the "Quilt as you Go" method and know of some women that have really liked it. Is that Eleanor Burns? Looks like someone sent you a tutorial link...how nice!

Wouldn't blame you if you did throw out the scale...urgggg

Stay Cozy, Carrie

I have quilted a few small lap quilts but have never try a 'Quilt As You Go' project. It does sound interesting and very manageable. I must say that your choice of fabric is beautiful! I think that you will be very pleased...:O)

I'm all for throwing out my scale too! Started doing WW's this past week-end. I am giving myself a 30 challenge. I'm hopeful!

Hugs,

I, too, have gotten this quilting bug.. I went to the link LizA noted, that looks like a very workable solution to begin with!! It looks like something that can be worked, put away easily without forgetting where you were, etc. Thank you for the post, I had not seen this type yet!!

Lettie, sorry to hear your diet isn't coming along as you had planned. I know that feeling all too well.

I can't wait to see what kind of creative design you come up with for your quilt.

Take care.

I was interested on a quilt as you go quilt, but I am not sure how you finish the back side of the sashing. Love your bright colors!

Happy sewing!

All I know about quilting is from the movie " An american quilt" with Wynona Ryder and Ann Bancroft.
However I´m sure you will do a great job.
Happy easter

I love the colors you have chosen for your quilt. Darlin, you have much more patience than me to do something like this. Quilts are beautiful pieces of art and I so wish I had the time to complete one. I become rather intimidated when I think about starting something of that magnitude.

I am a quilter and with all the beautiful things you create, I think you had better prepare yourself to be hooked on quilting. I haven't tried the quilt as you go method, but know people who have and are very happy with it. Good luck
